Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed United's interest in Brazil international Lucas Moura. Moura has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford during the current Transfer window. Recent reports claim the English giants bid of £26m has been agreed by Sao Paulo for the Brazilian wonder kid.
Ferguson was speaking ahead of United's match against Shanghai Shenhua in Shanghai. When asked whether the bid of £26m has been agreed by the Brazilian side, Ferguson denied the reports claiming United have not reached an agreemnet yet for Moura.
"It's not correct" Ferguson said "We haven't reached an agreement for the player. We've shown an interest but until such time as we get a deal agreed we can't say he's our player."
The Old Trafford club was reported to have sent a delegation to Brazil to hold talks over a transfer for Lucas, who is currently in the United Kingdom with the Brazilian Olympic squad.
United have already signed Shiniji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund and Nick Powell from Crewe in the current summer Transfer window. Ferguson is also loking forward to sign the Dutch striker Robin Van Persie from Arsenal to strengthen United's attack.
"At this moment we're looking at other options in terms of bringing other players in.We're not lying on our backsides doing nothing. We're trying hard to bring other players to the club." Ferguson added at a news conference in Shanghai.
Ferguson has revelaed United's skipper Nemanja Vidic and Jonny Evans, 24, could both miss United's opening game of the season against Everton on 18 August.
Vidic was sidelined due to injury during the inital stages of last season. United's skipper suffered a major blow during the Champions League Group Stage match and was sidelined for the rest of last season after knee ligament damage. However, Vidic is back in full training and there were hopes the captain would be able to feature against Everton.
Evans, who has had surgery on a foot injury which ruled him out of the end of last season, could also miss the beginning of the new campaign.
"It's not 100% that Jonny Evans and Vida will start the season," Ferguson added
"Jonny will start running today. Vida and Phil Jones started full training today, which is very positive. If I can keep Rio Ferdinand fit, then Vidic and Jones should give us ample cover."
