Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has been searching for re-enforcments at the back in the shape of a new left back and he now turns his attentions to Malaga's Spanish international left back Nacho Monreal.
Sir Alex had been interested in Everton's Leighton Baines and Chelsea's Ashley Cole, but realistically he has decided to look elsewhere when Everton put up a resistance and Ashley Cole is negotiating a new contract with Chelsea.
Monreal is a 26-year-old defender who has been capped 5 times for his country and has just gained another re-call to the squad for the upcoming friendly against Puerto Rico on August 15th.
The left back had an impressive season with Malaga last year making 31 appearances and would be interested in a move to the Premier League.
Coming through the youth ranks in Osasuna he caught the eye amongst Spanish pundits and was signed by Malaga for €6 million. He is said to be worth in the region of €9 million now and will be an appealing price for Sir Alex as he looks to add strength in depth to his squad.
With the likes of Chelsea adding talent and the already strong Premier League Champions Manchester City looking to challenge again, United have to strengthen their own squad in order to compete.
United officials will now decide whether to make an offer for the left back after a succession of scouting sessions of the player.
