Manchester United could be on the verge of losing Croatian midfielder Luka Modric to oil-rich French side, Paris Saint Germain. Reports claim PSG has outbid United in signing the 26-year old Croatian. PSG have reportedly made a bid of £30m plus for Modric. United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is looking for a long term replacement for Paul Scholes. Ferguson has failed to sign a world-class player in the last few transfer windows, which has become a matter of frustration among United fans.
Ferguson has been an admirer of Modric from the past few seasons. PSG's bid of £30m could leave Ferguson frustrated as United have already made a bid of £22m for the Tottenham Hotspurs midfielder. Modric is one of the top priorities during the summer transfer for PSG's Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti. It is believed Ancelotti had scouts at Croatia's Euro 2012 win over the Republic of Ireland on Sunday. However, reports claim that Modric is interested in a move to Old Trafford rather than PSG. PSG's deal could make it complicated for Modric and Ferguson. Modric is currently concentrating on Euro 2012 and has refused to comment about his future at this time.
"I'm with the national team. I am a Spurs player and it's not down to me to speak about it." Modric said when asked about his possible move.
The Spurs are facing a tough time with their manager, Harry Redknapp, as he is entering into his final year of contract. The Spurs have refused to give Redknapp a new deal. It could eventually result in Redknapp leaving the Spurs by the end of next season.
Will Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy be able to retain his Manager and Top Players Like Luka Modric and Gareth Bale? Only time will tell if Levy will be successful in keeping his top three assets. All in all, it is going to be a tough time for Spurs and an exciting summer transfer from a neutral point of view.
