Various reports on Tuesday are suggesting that Manchester United are set to reinstate their interest in Benfica midfielder Axel Witsel.

23-year-old Belgium International Witsel has been on the radar of European Champions Chelsea this summer and has expressed a desire to move to the Premier League, joining the likes of fellow Belgium's Marouane Fellaini, Moussa Dembele and Eden Hazard.

Chelsea have since cooled their interest and signed Brazilian play maker Oscar Dos Santos, so the road is now clear for Sir Alex's United to make their move.

Witsel comes fresh out of a new grass roots coaching system in Belgium, which has produced an impressive generation of young players, all now breaking through in to the big sides.

Ferguson see's Witsel as the perfect all round midfielder. He is technically brilliant and has the ability to defend and attack making him a good box to box midfielder.

United have been linked with Brazilian midfielder Lucas Moura, but have turned their attentions to Witsel as it would now seem that Moura would prefer to join Paris Saint Germain, with reports saying he 'prefers the city of Paris'.

They will have to move fast for the Benfica star as he is also being tracked by Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid. Witsel has a buy out clause of £35 million in his contract that Ferguson would not been keen on matching, but it is said that they should be able to land the midfielder for around £20 million, which is more in his prize range.

With Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs predictably only playing for one final season, there will be holes in the heart of the midfield, Ferguson will be looking to nurture the young Belgium into an important player in the midfield for many seasons to come. He has the ability to become an instant hit at Old Trafford.
