Manchester United need reinforcements despite their summer recruitment drive.

Robin van Persie and Shinji Kagawa go a long way towards increasing the offensive talent pool at the club, but recruits in other areas are direly needed.

Here are three transfer suggestions for Sir Alex Ferguson for the January window.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa

The French centre-half was desperately close to securing a move away from Montpellier this summer, as AC Milan looked all set to land him as a replacement for Thiago Silva.

The transfer capitulated though, and while he may we cup-tied in Europe due to his participation this season, he's worth a serious look in January for around €10 million.

Nacho Monreal

You'd be hard pressed to find a more in-form left-back than Monreal right now as he and Malaga are soaring. Both his La Liga and UEFA Champions League form have been immense to date, sparking constant speculation regarding his tenancy at the Andalusian club.

Top-class left-backs are rare, so Fergie needs to snap him up while he can. Patrice Evra is still  underperforming and it doesn't seem the Scot trusts Alexander Buttner.

Etienne Capoue

We haven't seen a more complete midfeld destroyer emerge since Claude Makelele. Capoue is everything you want in an aggressive, destructive holder.

He's playing with Toulouse and will be snapped up soon. It's one of those scenarios where his next move could be his last. United desperately need a disruptor amongst their ranks to compete with Manchester City successfully.
