Manchester United win their first match of this season and what a way to win it. United held on for a 3-2 win over Fulham at home on Saturday. United played their first home game of the new campaign with their top two summer transfer acquisitions Shinji Kagawa and Robin Van Persie in the starting lineup.

United had a setback in the first few minutes of the match as Damien Duff gave the early lead for the visitors. It didn't take a long time for United to equalize with Van Persie scoring his first goal for his new club. Kagawa also scored on his debut which gave a lead to United before Brazilian International Rafael Da Silva made the score 3-1 for United before the half time.

United did dominate the game in the first half but had a shaky moment in the second half when Nemanja Vidic scored an own goal in the 64th minute which gave a lifeline for Fulham.

Fulham did realize they had a chance to gain a point at Old Trafford and gave United defense one or two scares, especially during the dying moments of the match when De Gea punched Ruiz's header off the line. United had a setback when their star striker Wayne Rooney suffered an injury right as stoppage time began, when Hugo Rodellega accidentally stepped on his knee. Rooney could be sideline for at least four weeks claimed Sir Alex Ferguson.

"It's a very bad gash. He's been whisked off to hospital and I think he'll be out for four weeks." Ferguson said.

Speaking about the match, United Boss went on to add "Fulham tried to slow the tempo of the match down. They do it very well because they've got several players over 30 years of age. They're a very experienced team. After their second goal, we struggled."

"I was pleased with both of them. Its early doors and they'll have a better understanding as time goes on. It's normal for us to play one up front with one in behind, whether it's Wayne who plays in that role or Danny Welbeck. Ashley Young can play there too, Ryan Giggs can. We've got options that way"

"The first-half performance was fantastic. The intensity of our game was terrific. It was a fantastic goal by Robin Van Persie and by half-time we were leading 3-1, it could have been four or five." Ferguson went on to add.
