After an enthralling Boxing Day win over archrivals Newcastle United, Manchester United will entertain the high-flying West Brom on Saturday.
The Baggies have been in sensational form this term, having collected 33 points from 19 games and are currently sitting sixth in the league table.
United, on the other hand, are seven points clear at the summit of the EPL ladder and would surely relish the opportunity of grabbing another three points to heap pressure on their “Noisy Neighbours”, Manchester City
Wayne Rooney is ruled out for the game with a knee injury, whereas, all of Ashley Young, Shinji Kagawa and Danny Welbeck are available for selection.
It is unlikely that Nemanja Vidic would be drifted into the starting 11 after the Serbian complained of soreness in his knee after the 1-1 draw with Swansea (via Goal.com).
Both Nani and Phil Jones are also expected to sit out, along with Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes.
Goran Popov is a long-term absentee for West Brom, although Steven Reid and Claudio Yacob could make the trip to Old Trafford for the visitors.
Manchester United: De Gea; Smalling, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra; Valencia, Carrick, Cleverley, Welbeck; Van Persie, Chicharito.
West Brom: Foster; Jones, Olsson, McAuley, Ridgewell; Mulumbu, Brunt; Fortune, Gera, Morrison; Long.
Player to Watch Out For: Javier Hernandez
Although breaking down West Brom’s compact defence won’t be an easy task, Javier Hernandez is bound to cause trouble in the opposition’s final third with his scintillating pace and ghostly instincts.
After netting his tenth goal for United this season during the club’s 4-3 win over Magpies, the Mexican will be keen to further increase his tally and make a name for himself as a starter for the Red Devils.
Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 West Brom
After a stuttering performance against Newcastle, United could, to some extent, struggle against West Brom. However, with the probability of Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck starting in the midfield, the much-required pace will be added to United’s play and I see them wrapping up a narrow 2-1 win.
