The most contentious football rivalry in Utah between the Utah Utes and BYU Cougars kicks off its 94th installment on Saturday night at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN2. Last week, No. 25 BYU breached the Top 25 for the first time this season while Utah suffered a 27-20 loss in overtime to Utah State. Meanwhile, the Utah Utes enter their annual 'Holy War' reeling from starting quarterback Jordan Wynn's decision to leave football instead of have his right shoulder go under the knife for a fourth time.
Utah's quarterback woes coupled with BYU's 10th ranked defense and the nation's fourth best pass rushing attack does not bode well for Kyle Winningham's crew.
KEYS TO VICTORY:
Keeping BYU Pass Rush At Bay - The Utes are currently undergoing a transition at quarterback while the Cougars are fourth in the nation in sacks registered this season.
Get Running Game In Rhythm - Not only does BYU have an elite pass rush but Utah's offensive line couldn't block a mouse hole. Last week, they surrendered three sacks to Utah State.
BYU's pass rush and their suffocating secondary will make things difficult for Jon Hays and true freshman Travis Wilson. If Utah has any hope of pulling off the upset they'll have to get somewhere between 110-150 yards rushing and from senior tailback John White.
Quick Passes- Utah's quarterbacks will have to get the ball out of their hands quickly to avoid getting pummeled.
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Star Lotuleilei - Utah's Lotuleilei is considered a first round NFL prospect, however, the 300 pounder's original path led him to BYU. Lotuleilei originally signed with BYU before failing to qualify academically, attending a JUCO college and enrolling at Utah.
John White - White ran for 1,500 yards and 15 touchdowns last season including a 174-yard, three touchdown effort in a win over BYU. White has rushed for 215 yards thus far this season.
Riley Nelson - BYU's starting quarterback is the Cougars' undisputed leader andit seems as if he's been playing college football since the LaVell Edwards era.
Kyle Van Noy - The BYU linebacker has recorded three sacks in two games against Utah.
Brandon Ogletree - Led the Cougars in tackles last season.
PREDICTION: Historically, when BYU has faced Utah as a ranked team while Utah Is unranked, they are 13-1 all-time. The trend continues in an easy BYU victory, 34-14.
