This Saturday in Norman, Oklahoma the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (7-0), ranked  No. 5 in the BCS standings, will take on the Oklahoma Sooners (5-1), ranked No. 8 in the BCS standings.  The game will be broadcasted on ABC at 7 p.m. CT on Saturday 10/27 and will be Notre Dame’s biggest test to date.  Historically, Notre Dame and Oklahoma have met eight times with the Irish winning seven of those contests, the last of which was a 34-30 Notre Dame victory in 1999. Notre Dame will look to prove that their top five ranking in the BCS is warranted and Oklahoma will try to keep rolling after dismantling Kansas 52-7 on 10/20 and move closer to Kansas State, who beat Oklahoma earlier this year and holds the top spot in the Big 12.

Everett Golson, who suffered a concussion two weeks ago against Stanford, will re-take the reins for Notre Dame’s offense after missing last week’s close victory against BYU.  However, the real story here could be the defenses.  Notre Dame is ranked #6 in total defense while surrendering only 6 touchdowns all year and Oklahoma in ranked #15.  To win this game, Notre Dame’s stingy defense will have to shut down the most prolific offense they’ve faced to date.  Landry Jones and Oklahoma’s talented receiver core have the Sooners ranked #5 in overall scoring offense this year and while Notre Dame has been terrific on defense, they do have a young secondary.

Given Notre Dame’s young secondary, their young quarterback and the fact that this game is in Oklahoma, the Sooners have to be the favorite.  My pick, Oklahoma wins 31-17.

The spread for this game has Oklahoma favored by 11 with the over/under at 48 & 1/2.
