This Saturday in South Bend, Indiana the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (8-0), ranked #3 in the BCS standings, will take on the Pitt Panthers (4-4). The game can be seen on NBC at 2:30 CT on Saturday 11/3 as Notre Dame will try to keep their momentum going after last week’s thumping of Oklahoma 30-13. Historically, Notre Dame and Pitt have met 67 times with the Irish leading the series 46-20-1, the last meeting was a 15-12 Notre Dame victory in 2011. Notre Dame will look to prove that their #3 ranking in the BCS is legitimate and avoid a letdown after last week’s big victory in Oklahoma.
This game should be a close one as Notre Dame/Pitt games seem to usually be. Although the all-time numbers are skewed toward Notre Dame, Pitt always steps up their game against the Irish. In the last four meetings the avg. margin of victory was just over 4 points for the winning team. Not to mention that the Irish have had an average margin of victory of 5 points at home, while winning by 28 on the road. This statistic, according to Coach Brian Kelly, is attributed to teams wanting to play their best when they come to Notre Dame.
With this series being so close over the years, my pick is a Notre Dame win 24-17.
The spread for this game has Notre Dame favored by 17 with the over/under at 45.
