It looks like the Philadelphia Eagles have found their quarterback of the future. Nick Foles has looked very good in his last couple of starts and is a guy the team can truly build around.

He has shown great poise in the pocket and has even shown some hints of mobility although he wasn’t regarded as a very mobile quarterback.  Due to the Eagles sub-par offensive line, Foles has been under constant pressure in the pocket all season. Unlike Vick however, Foles is a big guy at 6ft 6 inches and can take hits in the pocket without getting injured or losing the ball.

When the offensive line has played even halfway decent, Foles has shredded up opposing defenses. He has been averaging a total of 235 yards per game in his last 5 starts. If the Eagles can build around Foles by adding a few quality linemen, he could be the guy that takes them to the promised land.

What impresses me most with Foles is his ability to make plays under pressure and in key situations. Foles led a breath taking comeback drive against Tampa Bay to give the Eagles the win. These are things that you don’t normally see from rookie Quarterbacks. Foles has shown that he has the most important quality in sports, which is being able to produce when it matters. Give him a couple of years and the right supporting cast, and a few Super Bowl trophies may be coming.

The only concern with Foles is that he occasionally tries to force throws into double coverage. These types of mistakes are expected from a rookie though and can easily be fixed with a full off-season.

Other Eagles Notes:

-          The Eagles scrapped the wide-9 defensive line formation and as a result had some success this week. Heading into this game the Eagles barely had 1 sack per game but against the Buccaneers Sunday, they recorded 2.

-          Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie had an impressive game against the Buccaneers with numerous long pass knockdowns and big hits.

-          The Eagles defense had a great first half and shutout the Buccaneers. Yet in the second half they were giving up plays left and right. The Eagles defense needs to be much more consistent if they expect to win games.

-          Tight End Brent Celek went down with a concussion early in the first quarter. Losing Celek is a big blow for Philadelphia.
