Premier League Transfer News: Frank Lampard Could Return To West Ham

On the same weekend when former Hammer Joe Cole returned to his old stomping ground to a rapturous reception from the West Ham faithful, it was all but confirmed that another former Hammer Frank Lampard, will be shown the exit at Stamford Bridge this summer.

Both Joe Cole and Frank Lampard came through West Ham's impressive youth system back in the mid 90s, and both players then moved on to join a growing Chelsea side, who had been taken over by a certain Russian billionaire. Cole had a mixed career, but Lampard managed to secure himself as one of the greatest midfielders of his generation and became a Chelsea and England hero.

Much to the disgust of Chelsea supporters, owner Roman Abramovich is ready to let Lampard leave this summer, when his contract ends. Not surprisingly there are a whole host of top clubs who are looking to sign Lampard, making the decision to allow him to leave Stamford Bridge, even more unbelievable.

The England International and current Chelsea vice-captain is sought after, even the likes of Manchester United are being linked to him, but it is West Ham who seem the most likely to pull of a coup and bring Lampard back to where he began his career as a highly rated young midfielder.

Cole recieved an enormous home coming on Saturday when his new side entertained Manchester United in The FA Cup and speculation is growing that Lampard is keen to join him back there. It would be a fairytale story for Hammer supporters, but Lampard has certainly not ruled it out at this stage and it is the 'disney-like' story surrounding it that appeals to him.

Keen to stay local, Lampard wants to join a team with grit, spirit and a team who want to win and challenge for everything. Although West Ham have not showered themselves with glory recently, the prospect of leading the team next season with the likes of Cole onboard, amongst some other big names, could be very appealing to the 34-year-old goal scoring machine.
