Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is confiednt that his team will qualify to the next round after loosing to German Champions Borussia Dortmund during the Champions League group stage match in Dortmund. Mourinho feels that Los Blancos defeat against the German Champions will not impact Madrid’s chances of qualifying for the next round.
The 49-year-old Portuguese admitted that Madird have been drawn alongside some difficult opponents during the Group stages of Champions League with Ajax and Manchester City being the other two teams from the same group.
Dortmund opened the scoring just after half hour mark when Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring for the German side. Lewandowski’s goal was cancelled just after two minutes with Cristiano Ronaldo equalizing for the Spanish Champions. Dortmund sealed the victory with a goal from Marcel Schmelzer in the 64th minute of the match.
Speaking in post-match conference Mourinho said “We lost the game, but it is not dramatic. We are in a serious group, it's no joke. It is not satisfying, but we are second”
“We now have six points. We have two games at home and it is within our reach to get the points needed to make the round of 16. I told my players that they were going to score their goals on the counterattack, and so it happened. I knew they would only have spaces in the transition game. There was a lot of pressure and it was difficult to get a balance. There were few opportunities and little creation”
Ajax registered their first win of the tournament after defeating English Champions Manchester City. With City at the bottom of the table with just a point and Ajax in third position with three points, it’s more likely to be Madrid and Dortmund to qualify from Group D to the next stage with six and seven points respectively.
