If the latest reports are to be believed, Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, is set to make an audacious move for Athletic Bilbao teenager Iker Muniain.
Ferguson sees Muniain as the heir to former United legend Cristiano Ronaldo and the Red Devils could submit a £32m to lure the Spaniard to Old Trafford.
“Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to re-ignite his interest in Athletic Bilbao youngster Iker Muniain. The Man United boss has been tracking the teenage attacker ever since his side came up against the Basque side in last season’s Europa League tie, a tie which the La Liga side won with ease.”
Primarily deployed as a left-winger, Muniain can play all along the attacking line and will be an invaluable addition to the United team.
The 19-year-old possesses thunderous pace, beautiful dribbling abilities and ability to easily get behind the defensive line and create havoc in front of the opposition’s goal.
He is often considered as one of the hottest up-and-coming players in Europe and was one of the best players of the Bilbao team that thrashed United in the Europa League last season. His pace and skills slaughtered the United’s defence and the youngster subsequently became an overnight sensation due to his impressive plays.
Even though Bilbao are notorious for demanding huge sums for their players, with Javi Martinez’s controversial move to Bayern Munich a testament to this claim, United should take the risk of investing a mammoth £32m in relatively inexperienced players.
He will have no problems fitting into the Red Devils’ team and will also allow the club to get rid of the highly inconsistent, Luis Nani. The latter is currently embroiled in a wage-war with the club and he himself has stated that his future at the club is currently under a big cloud.
However, Manchester United could face stiff competition from clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona as the two Spanish giants, too, have been tracking Muniain over the past few months.
