Arsenal Boss Arsene Wenger has been blessed with the ability to sign players this summer and it seems they are in the market for the best players around with money at their desposal.
Emerging as favourites to sign Manchester United winger Luis Nani, who has had disagreements with United over wage demands and contract issues, thus leaving him open to a move to The Emirates. The Portuguese International was also being chased by Turkish giants Galatasaray, who have allegedly now been priced out of the move and have turned their attentions elsewhere for reinforcements.
Nani has somewhat struggled to hold down a starting place in United's title winning starting eleven last season because of various injuries and becomming out of favour with Manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Wenger however, see's the aqcuisition of the pacey winger as an ideal addition to his squad.
Nani is also being chased by Juventus and Monaco, but it is thought the player would prefer to stay in England playing in the Premier League and Arsenal are keen to tie the deal up as soon as possible.
Every summer always seems to involve one huge speculative summer transfer, last year we had the 'Hulk saga' where Brazilian International attacker was all set for a move to London in the shape of Chelsea, but with The Blues refused to pay his high asking price the striker then went on to join rich Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg.
This season see's the ever changing saga of Napoli forward Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan striker is being targetted by Premier League giants Manchester City and Chelsea, as well as the reigning La Liga Champions Real Madrid. It could potentially be a mouth watering prospect for any one of those clubs.
We know Cavani wants to leave and will most likely go this summer despite claims that Napoli want him to stay. Having said that, there are reports circulating on Monday that Napoli are already lining up his replacement, in the shape of Brazilian goal poacher Leandro Damiao, who is also a target for English side Tottenham Hotspurs. Sources within Napoli have also stated that it will be better for the club if Cavani stayed away from the Premier League.
Newcastle United are struggling once again in attempting to keep hold of their prize midfielder, Yohan Cabaye. The French International has been the subject of many transfer acquisitions from clubs before now and has also been on the shortlist of current Europa League Champions Chelsea, who are under the new management of former Real Madrid boss, Jose Mourinho.
Reports on Monday from various British press, suggest that big spenders Monaco, who have already signed some big name players this summer including sought after striker Radamel Falcao from Atletico Madrid, are now setting their sights on the 27-year-old Newcastle midfielder.
New Manchester United Manager David Moyes is also keen on bringing Cabaye in to re-enforce his midfield with the likes of Paul Scholes retiring, and the fact he feels they need a bit more stability and experience in that area to compete for the title once again this season.
Arsenal have increased their efforts to sign Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain. The Gunners have launched a record €30 million bid, according to Spanish news outlet Marca.com.
That is widely expected to be enough to tempt Los Blancos into a sale. It is deemed enough to fend off the attentions of Juventus, who have also expressed an interest.
The report in Marca states that Juve are only prepared to offer €22 million for the prolific Argentina international. By outbidding La Bianconeri so boldly, Arsenal are making a serious statement of intent.
That kind of statement is something Gunners fans are expecting this summer. The club have been open about how much money they have to spend and their willingness to lure top stars.
So far though things have been quiet. That has prompted speculation that frugal manager Arsene Wenger might continue his cautious policy in the market.
However, the links to Higuain persist. He certainly fits the bill for a marquee signing. He is an expert finisher, boasting quality and guile in front of goal.
Arsenal are reportedly targeting prolific Lille forward Dimitri Payet. Website Sportsmole.co.uk cites an un-sourced report from French newspaper Le Parisien, suggesting Arsenal are keen to add Payet.
The exciting and versatile French attacker may not be in the mold of the big-money, marquee arrivals many Gunners fans are expecting this summer. But he certainly fits the profile of a classic Arsene Wenger signing.
The Arsenal chief has regularly plundered his homeland for several hidden gems during his time in North London. Emmanuel Petit, Thierry Henry, Robert Pires, Bacary Sagna and Laurent Koscielny are some of Wenger's notably successful raids on Ligue 1.
Payet could easily be another. The dynamic 26-year-old perfectly suits Arsenal's system and structure of play. He is quick and creative-minded, with an eye for goal. Payet netted 12 times and made 11 assists last season.
