This is the second successive summer that Tottenham midfilder Luka Modric has attempted to engineer a move away from White Hart Lane.

Last summer Chelsea were prepared to give £40 million for the 26-year old but Chairman Daniel Levy held firm and refused to let him go to their London rivals.

This summer Chelsea have again been after Modric, but decided against the battle with Levy once again and opted to sign Brazilian whizz kid Oscar Dos Santos. This meant there was now only one real club in for Luka Modric, Real Madrid.

The La Liga Champions have confirmed their interest and offered around £30million for Luka, but the deal has fallen short of Tottenham's asking price for Modric and it now looks as if Madrid will now be pulling out of the race as well.

Where does that leave Tottenham and Modric? Well, as frustrating as it might be for Modric, Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed that Modric will be re-joining the team in pre-season training and things will continue as normal.

AVB confirmed in an interview with Sky Sports that Tottenham had not received any offers that have met the clubs asking price for Luka Modric and insists it is not their fault that interested clubs have not matched his value.

How will the Spurs fans react to this? A player who has been their prize asset for the last two seasons, who blatantly does not want to be there anymore and has tried to leave for the last two seasons, will possibly now be turning out for the White Hart Lane side once again.
