Compiled below is an interesting list of players around the world who can still be signed by any club, due to the fact of them being out of contract, so effectively they are free agents. All that clubs will need to do is give them a signing on fee and a contract deal, then they are free to sign, even now the transfer window has finished.
With some of the top clubs still looking to make signings in thin areas, here is the pick of the bunch.
Mikael Forsell - Last club: Leeds United - Age: 31
Forsell is an experienced striker who is also a Finland international. He would surely still be a decent asset for a Championship club, a good eye for goal and has experience playing for Chelsea FC.
Michael Owen - Last club: Manchester United - Age: 32
Owen has a lot to offer and is the subject of interest from Stoke, Sunderland and Liverpool. Other clubs will need to work fast if they want to sign him now.
Michael Ballack - Last club: Bayer Leverkusen - Age: 34
Ballack is another former Chelsea player on the free agent list. Bags of experience with the German national team. He's still been performing at the highest level, would be a top signing for a Premier League club still. The only set-back being that he would have fairly high wage demands.
John Oster - Last club: Doncaster Rovers - Age: 33
Oster has experience in the Premier League already having played for many years with Everton. A decent midfielder with a lot to give still.
Lee Bowyer - Last club: Ipswich Town - Age: 35
Not getting any younger, but another player with top level international and club experience. He would still be a good catch for a Championship side.
Paul Scharner - Last club: West Brom - Age: 32
Scharner is a top utility player who has lots of Premier League experience, has the ability to play anywhere on the park and would surely still do a job in the Premier League.
Papa Bouba Diop - Last club: West Ham - Age: 34
Papa is yet another decent player with Premier League experience and would do a good job.
Darius Vassel - Last club - Leicester City - Age: 32
Vassel is a good goal poaching striker who has featured for England. He has lots of Premier League experience and a good eye for goal.
James Beattie - Last club - Sheffield United - Age: 34
Beattie is a talented target man who has also had experience playing for England and in the Premier League. The type of player who will always get you a goal and gives his all.
Owen Hargreaves - Last club: Manchester City - Age: 31
At only 31 years of age he still has many playing years left at the top level. He will be a decent capture for most Premier League clubs after spending last season with the league champions Manchester City. If he can stay fit, he has the potential to hit form again. He is my pick of the bunch here for sure.
James Mcfadden - Last club: Everton - Age: 29
Here we have a good striker who has an eye for goal. Mcfadden would be a good option for a Premier League club seeking backup attacking options.
Emile Heskey - Last club: Aston Villa - Age: 34
Love him or hate him, there is no doubt that he has the ability to cause problems with opposition defenders. He possesses International experience with England and is still a decent target man.
Ivan Klasnic - Last club: Bolton Wanderers - Age: 32
Yet another decent striker here with lots of Premier League experience, also being a hard worker with an eye for goal.
Nigel Reo-Coker - Last club: Bolton Wanderers - Age: 28
Reo-Coker is a very influential midfielder who comes with great Premier League experience. He's a good leader and at only 28-years-old, he would surely be a great buy for a top club.
David James - Last club: Bristol City - Age: 42
The former England number one goalkeeper finds himself on the wrong side of 40 now, but being a keeper, he still has a lot to offer. A top shot stopper and a good leader.
We have a decent set of players there all facing the start of the season without a club. I'm sure with many of them though, this will not stay the same.
