If there was any doubt why Chelsea is so hated no just in the English Premier League (EPL) but across Europe, one of its budding young stars Gael Kakuta’s latest comments just confirmed this public opinion.

Kakuta told The Sun a few days ago that there are too many players at Chelsea and he is contemplating playing elsewhere next season. The 21-year old Kakuta spent the last season on loan at Vitesse Arnhem in Holland (he also had temporary bouts with Fulham, Bolton, and Dijon).

Like so many young talented footballers, he came through the Blue’s training system as a teenager—and it was predicted that he would have an outstanding career with the Chelsea. However, the lack of playing time has caused reality to set in with the youngster. Kakuta was quoted as saying “I don’t dream about Chelsea anymore – I used to, now I know better. I hope I can join a club like Vitesse next season, where I can play every week. Chelsea has far too many players…at my age I need to play regularly but if I go back I’ll just get 10 minutes a month and I don’t want that.”

The youngster is right. Chelsea is like the New York Yankees of soccer. The club has a ton of money and tries to outspend other teams by buying the best talent, all the while ignoring the young players who were brought up through their system.

So How did Chelsea become so hated?

The main reason is owner, Russian Tycoon (billionaire Roman Abramovich); who ever since he took over the team has changed the face of the football club. Abranivuch has brought that “win-now” mentality by buying the best and most expensive footballers in the world.

Abramovich is viewed as Chelsea rich “sugar daddy” who created an uneven playing field for other EPL clubs who do not have the money to spend to remain competitive (with the exception of Man U. and Man. City). All the while, young talents like Kakuta who were brought up through Chelsea’s system get to be the sacrificial lambs for older, world class players. The London media have been running all the hype surrounding the Blues. Even the fans at Stamford Bridge have brought into “the Chelsea’s new swagger”, and dream of multiple Premiership titles.

Chelsea fans would have you believe that it’s the media who constantly focus on all of the negative stereotypes surrounding their football club.

The bottom line is this, Chelsea is viewed as the most hated football club in the EPL because they have a lot of money which have translated into success on the pitch in a relatively short period of time. As a result many football fans not just at Stamford Bridge have jumped on the bandwagon; and Chelsea fans in London are now viewed as arrogant and success-hungry because the club has a lot of money to spend.
