Yaya Toure could make a sensational move to Chelsea, admits his agent.
Toure has gone as far as he can at Manchester City and wants a new challenge at a club such as Barcelona, Chelsea, or Bayern Munich, according to his agent. The Ivory Coast midfielder's representative, Dimitri Seluk, believes his client has done everything at City after winning the FA Cup and Premier League title.
"Toure has done everything that he can with City and needs new motivations," Seluk was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. "He could sign for many big clubs, like Chelsea or Bayern Munich, but I would like it if Barca made a bid for him."
Seluk feels several European heavyweights, including English rivals and last year's UEFA Champions League winners, Chelsea, would be interested in signing the 29-year-old. But the agent would most like to see Toure return to Barca, from where he joined City in 2010 in a reported £24 million move after the three seasons at the Nou Camp.
This headline will not go well with Man City fans, who will surely have had reason to believe that their club is now on a par with the likes of Premier League rivals Chelsea, after last season's maiden title win. Apparently not, according to the agent of star midfielder Yaya Toure, who says his client wants a new challenge at a ''big'' club like Chelsea, Bayern Munich or his former employer: Barcelona. That's rough. Just goes to show that money can buy you success but not a history.
That said, Chelsea hadn't exactly won much before Roman Abramovich came along so it's suprising to see them, and not Real Madrid or Manchester United, for instance, classed alongside Barca and Bayern.
The practical repercussions are also not pretty for the Champions. Alongside David Silva and Vincent Kompany, Toure is an irreplaceable part of City's squad: there are few better midfielders in world football at doing what he does, namely sitting deep and driving the side forward on the counter attack.
The Ivorian is incomparable when he stretches his legs and runs with the ball and is also a fine finisher. There is no doubting that a whole group of top European clubs will be interested in his services should he demand a move but City will, of course, demand huge money for one of their prized advantages.
This will be quite the transfer season.
