Square Enix has revealed a trailer for the November update of “Final Fantasy XI” and longtime players may want to grab a box of tissues. The trailer takes a look at the many highlights the online game has had over the years, including moments from the first two chapters of the “Rhapsodies of Vana’diel” event.

“Final Fantasy XI” was the first massive multiplayer online game (MMO) under the “Final Fantasy” license and it ended up being a massive success. The game originally came out on the PC and PlayStation 2 back in 2002 and has continued to this day, with a final event that will serve as a swan song for the online game.

It’s not all nostalgia and tears with the new trailer, however, as Digital Spy has confirmed plenty of new content in the final event. There will be new monsters to face, new loot to take, and new weapons to use.

The new weapons are called the “Aeonic Weapons” and are some of the most powerful weapons in the game. These weapons are on par with the Relic, Myth and Empyrean weapons, which will be getting tweaked for the November update for balancing issues.

In addition to this event, “Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn” will also be celebrating the game’s finale, with a special event that will happen on Nov. 11 or “Final Fantasy XI Day.” According to Siliconera, the event is collaboration between the two games and should be a memorable one for online players.

While “Final Fantasy XI” is nearing its end, the game’s legacy will live on through mobile games. Several spinoff titles based on the game’s universe have been confirmed, though it's unclear if fans in the West will gain access to these titles.

Though newer fans are a little too late to join the “Final Fantasy XI” party, there’s still plenty of time to get into “Final Fantasy XIV.” The game is currently available on the PS4, Xbox One and PC. The “Heavensward” expansion pack has also been released, adding a number of new features and areas, making the game bigger than it already was.
