Even though George Lucas’ “Star Wars” is loved by many, there are still some critics who enjoy poking holes at the franchise, particularly its prequels. “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” star Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker, is not taking any of those criticisms lying down.

“I couldn't believe some of the things they wrote about the prequels, you know. I mean really, beyond I didn't like it you ruined my childhood. I'm still angry about the way they treated Jake Lloyd (young Anakin Skywalker),” he told New York Magazine. “He was only 10 years old, that boy, and he did exactly what George wanted him to do. Believe me, I understand clunky dialogue.”

Hamill also revealed that he wasn’t sure he wanted to return to the “Star Wars” franchise when they announced that they will be making “The Force Awakens.” But after Harrison Ford agreed to reprise his role as Han Solo, Hamill said he did not have a choice.

“Because if I said no to this, these people are going to be outside my house like the angry villagers in Frankenstein, with lightsabers instead of torches. I'll be the most hated man in fandom,” he explained. “I was shocked that I was only in the last minute or so, but it was the best of both worlds because I could really sort of enjoy it. I was sorry that I didn't get to reunite with any of the original characters, but I could enjoy it all without having the responsibility on my shoulders. So if it was horrible and everybody hated it, I could say, ‘See, it's not my fault.’”

The new film will be released without one of its mainstays, Carrie Fisher, who played Luke’s sister Princess/General Leia Organa. However, Fisher will still be a part of the eighth film in the franchise. Variety has reported that the actress wrapped shooting last July, so producers will not have to address her death until the ninth film, which will begin shooting in 2018.

Meanwhile, Hamill also teased that “The Last Jedi” will have a “real samurai” feel, according to Entertainment Weekly.

“Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” which is directed by Rian Johnson, will be released on Dec. 15.
