Steam’s annual summer sale just ended, and the popular sales event went out with a bang. In celebration of its last day, Steam offered discounts on awesome games like “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim,” “Barman: Arkham Origins” and “Fallout New Vegas.” During the sale, Steam offered discounts on a number of games, featuring price reductions of up to 80 percent.

At its peak, more than 8 million people were accessing the sale via the site’s stats page. Yes, that’s roughly the population of New York City. The previous Steam sale record was about 7 million people during the platform’s winter sale in December last year.

The Steam summer sale began at 1 p.m. ET on Thursday, June 19, and ran for 11 days. This year's sale took place one month earlier than the Steam summer sale of 2013, which ran in July.

Rumors of Valve’s platform sale surfaced on NeoGAF earlier this month, and the sale was confirmed on June 18.
