U.S. stock index futures pointed to a rebound on Tuesday following the previous session's plunge, mirroring a tentative rally in Europe where investors started to pick up recently-hammered shares.

At 3:14 a.m. EDT, futures for the S&P 500 were up 2.9 percent, Dow Jones futures up 2.7 percent and Nasdaq 100 futures up 3.2 percent.
