Stocks opened slightly lower on Tuesday, the one-year anniversary of the lows reached in the recession, with commodity-related shares down as the dollar strengthened.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> fell 16.33 points, or 0.15 percent, at 10,536.19. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> dipped 3.26 points, or 0.29 percent, at 1,135.24. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was down 6.10 points, or 0.26 percent, at 2,326.11.
