RTTNews - Stocks moved higher at the start of trading on Monday, as traders reacted positively to the latest batch of earnings as well as news that commercial lender CIT Group (CIT) is close to securing enough funding to avoid filing for bankruptcy.

Benefiting from an increase in prices, metal stocks are turning in some of the best performances in early trading. Significant strength has also emerged in a variety of other sectors, with commercial real estate, energy, and housing stocks posting notable gains.

The major averages have seen some further upside in the past few minutes, rising to new highs for the young session. The Dow is currently up 73.46 at 8,817.40, the Nasdaq is up 14.30 at 1,900.91 and the S&P 500 is up 8.13 at 948.51.
