Stocks showed a strong upward move at the start of trading on Tuesday, with the major averages moving back to the upside after ending the previous session in the red. The initial strength came as traders express some optimism about the near-term outlook for the markets.

With commodities prices extending a recent upward move, resource stocks are turning in some of the best performances in early trading. Real estate, financial, and housing stocks are also seeing early strength, while health insurance stocks are bucking the uptrend.

In the past few minutes, the major averages have pulled back off their highs for the young session, although they remain in positive territory. The Dow is currently up 34.89 at 8,453.66, the Nasdaq is up 6.44 at 1,737.68 and the S&P 500 is up 3.77 at 913.01.
