After seeing some initial strength, stocks have dropped from their highs on Tuesday and are now turning in a mixed performance.

On the upside, retail and airline stocks are leading the gainers, with the S&P Retail Index up 2.3 percent and the Amex Airline Index up 1.7 percent.

Meanwhile, healthcare and brokerage stocks are turning in some of the worst performances of the day. The Morgan Stanley Healthcare Provider Index is down 2.6 percent and the Amex Securities Broker/Dealer Index is down 1.3 percent.

Currently, the major averages are mixed, with the Dow down 4.46 at 7,785.10, while the Nasdaq is up 6.17 at 1,567.78 and the S&P 500 is posting a gain of 1.37 at 816.92.
