RTTNews - After seeing some volatility earlier in the session, stocks are moving mostly lower in late morning trading on Tuesday. The major averages are stuck firmly in negative territory after bouncing back and forth across the unchanged line in early trading.

Resource stocks are turning in some of the market's worst performances amid a decrease in commodities prices, with gold stocks posting particularly steep losses. With the price of gold falling nearly $15 an ounce, the NYSE Arca Gold Bugs Index is down 6 percent.

Significant weakness is also visible among transportation stocks, as reflected by the 1.9 percent loss currently being shown by the Dow Jones Transportation Average. Some networking, chemical, and brokerage stocks are also posting notable losses.

On the other hand, health insurance and healthcare provider stocks have moved sharply higher, driving the Morgan Stanley Healthcare Payor Index and the Morgan Stanley Healthcare Provider Index up 5.9 percent and 3 percent, respectively.

The major averages have shown a notable move to the downside in recent trading, with the Dow and the S&P 500 falling to new lows for the session. The Dow is currently down 78.83 at 9,029.68, the Nasdaq is down 13.09 at 1,954.80 and the S&P 500 is down 10.12 at 972.06.
