Stocks are showing a lack of direction in early trading, with the major averages lingering near the unchanged line after ending the previous session mixed. Some traders may be staying on the sidelines ahead of the release of some key economic data.

Despite the choppy trading, notable weakness has emerged among real estate, trucking, and banking stocks. On the other hand, resource stocks are seeing early strength, with oil service stocks posting significant gains amid a notable increase by the price of oil.

The major averages are currently posting modest losses, with the Dow down 15.61 at 8,152.51, the Nasdaq down 0.85 at 1,716.45 and the S&P 500 down 0.87 at 871.94.
