Stocks are turning in a mixed performance in early trading on Tuesday, with the major averages moving on opposite sides of the unchanged line after ending the previous session sharply higher. The mixed trading comes ahead of testimony from Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke.

The major sectors are moving in opposite directions after nearly all of the sectors showed strong upward moves on Monday. While airline, healthcare, and gold stocks are seeing early strength, weakness is visible among semiconductor, real estate, and natural gas stocks.

The major averages currently remain mixed, with the Dow clinging to a modest gain. The Dow is currently up 5.42 at 8,432.16, while the Nasdaq is down 6.71 at 1,756.85 and the S&P 500 is down 0.89 at 906.35.
