Stores Open on New Year's Day 2012: Walmart, Target and Other Store Hours

New Year's Day is an observed U.S. holiday and will be celebrated on Jan. 1, 2012. Government offices, schools, financial markets and post offices will be closed. There will be no street cleaning, garbage pick-up or recycling and only express mail will be delivered. Trains will operate on a holiday schedule and parking regulations will be on Sunday schedules.

Best Buy: Stores will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year's Eve, but will be closed on New Year's Day. Check your local Best Buy hours for details.

Costco: All stores will open at 9 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. on New Year's Eve and will reopen for business on Mon., Jan. 2. All stores will be closed on New Year's Day.

CVS: The store has more than 6,200 locations nationwide and offers extended hours for the holidays. Most stores will be open during regular business hours. Call 1-800-SHOP-CVS to find out if the CVS near you will be open.

Kmart: Kmart stores will have regular business hours on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Check the store locator for the Kmart nearest you.

Macy's: All stores will have regular business hours on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. For details, check your local store.

Publix: All stores will have regular hours and close at 9 p.m. on New Year's Eve. On New Year's Day, stores in certain Florida counties will open at 7 a.m. All other stores will open at regular hours and close at 7 p.m. Contact your local store to find details.

Target: The megastore will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on New Year's Eve and will be open during regular business hours on New Year's Day. To confirm the details of your local Target, check their store locator.

Toys R Us: Most stores will be open during normal business hours on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. To check the details of your local Toys R Us, use their store locator.

Walgreens: Most stores will have regular hours on New Year's Eve (8 a.m. to 10 p.m.) and depending on the location they may even be open on New Year's Day. Check your local store to be sure to get the correct hours.

Walmart: Most stores will have normal business hours on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Check the store finder for your nearest Walmart.
