A strong earthquake of magnitude 4.7 hit northwest Japan on Thursday, but no tsunami warning was issued, reported Reuters quoting public broadcaster NHK.

The earthquake was reported to be shallow, and no immediate damage or casuality was reported. Kashiwazaki Kariwa, the nuclear plant in the northwest region of Japan was operating normally,Tokyo Electric Power Co said.
