A 9-year-old student in North Carolina was suspended from school for two days for sexual harassment after calling his teacher cute.

The mother of the boy, Chiquita Lockett, said her 9-year-old Emanyea was suspended from Brookside Elementary School in Gastonia, N.C. on Wednesday, according to WSOC-TV.

Lockett was notified by the principal that a substitute teacher overheard her son calling another teacher cute with a friend at school.

It's not like he went up to the woman and tried to grab her or touch her in a sexual way, Lockett told WSOC. So why would he be suspended for two days?

The Gaston County school district said Emanyea was suspended for inappropriate behavior after making inappropriate statements.

The school sent a certified letter to Lockett, detailing the reasons her son is being accused of sexual harassment and past incidents when Emanyea called students bad words, WSOC reported.

I didn't use bad language about other students, he told WSOC, though he admitted to calling his teacher cute.

All you said is your teacher is cute? WSOC reported asked, to which he replied yes.

I said Ms. Taylor was cute, and that's it, he said. That's all I said.

Chiquita Lockett said she was unaware her son was talking badly to other students and is upset school officials did not let her know.

What's in that letter, what they accuse him about -- if that's true, I should have been notified about it, Lockett said. And if so, then I would have seen where a suspension would have taken place.
