A suicide bomber killed at least six people and wounded 23 more when he detonated explosives at a military hospital in the Kabul on Saturday, the Afghan Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The bomb struck at 12:30 p.m. local time (0900 GMT) in the hospital cafeteria in presence of medical students, said Mohammad Zahir, head of the police crime investigation unit. He added the dead were students.

The hospital is in the vicinity of several foreign embassies and international organizations in the capital.

Similar blast occurred in April when an Afghan army bus was attacked on the outskirts of Kabul, wounding 10 soldiers and civilians.

The attack comes just after the Taliban last month announced a spring offensive, vowing to carry out attacks, including suicide bombings, on foreign and Afghan troops and government officials.
