The first two episodes of “Suits” in the new year are unlike most installments of the USA Network series. Since the remaining main characters of the legal drama are going to deal with Jessica’s (Gina Torres) departure from Pearson Specter Litt when Season 6 resumes in January, series creator Aaron Korsh told TVLine that episodes 11 and 12 “are a little bit more personal in nature, and … a little outlier-ish.”

“We had a major event happen with Jessica leaving, [which was] a big shock to the firm, and also Mike (Patrick J. Adams) getting out of prison,” Korsh explained. “We sort of didn’t get a chance to deal with what he’s going to do after getting out of prison in [the fall finale] because we were so focused on the Leonard Bailey (Glenn Plummer) case. So the first couple of episodes are different.”

According to the synopsis for episode 11, titled “She’s Gone,” Mike continues to adjust to his new life as an ex-convict. Harvey (Gabriel Macht) knows that Mike is going to have hard time looking for a new job following his prison stint, so he offered him a chance to return to the firm as a consultant. While it remains to be seen whether the former faux lawyer will accept Harvey’s job offer, promo photos for the last six episodes of the season seem to suggest that Mike is going back to the firm.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last September, Adams said that episode 11 will find “Mike … desperately searching for where he’s going to fit next and realizing that even though he’s paid the price and done his time [in jail] that it’s still something that’s going to get in the way of him accomplishing his dreams.”

“He can’t really shake the fact that he was sent to prison,” Adams, who also directed the episode, added of his character.

“Suits” Season 6, episode 11, titled “She’s Gone,” airs on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017 at 10 p.m. EST on USA Network. Episode 12, meanwhile, is expected to air the following week.
