Veteran comedian Sunda Croonquist may have to stop joking about her mother in law.

The mother in law, who is Jewish, is accusing Croonquist of spreading false, defamatory and racist lies when she comes up with jokes about her in comedy routines in nightclubs and on TV channels such as Comedy Central, the Associated Press reports.

Croonquist has previously thrown jokes such as: I walk in, I say, 'Thank you so much for having me here, Ruthie.' She says, 'The pleasure's all mine, have a seat.' Then, in a loud aside, 'Harriet, put my pocketbook away.'

The lawsuit was filed on April by mother-in-law Ruth Zafrin, her daughter, Shelley Edelman, and Shelley's husband, Neil in the U.S. District Court in New Jersey, where they live.
