Parents beware—Badger, a leading children’s brand of organic sunscreens, has issued a level two recall for certain lot codes of two of their products this week after discovering items could be contaminated with potentially harmful bacteria.

According to a press release from W.S. Badger Company Inc. Tuesday, 30,000 tubes of their natural sunscreens are being voluntarily recalled after traces of bacteria and fungi were found in products by the manufacturer. The two items included in the recall: Badger SPF 30 Baby Sunscreen Lotion 4oz and Badgers SPF 30 Baby Sunscreen Lotion 4oz.

Following the recall, the CEO of the New Hampshire-based company, Bill Whyte, issued a public apology on the company's official website Tuesday. “We Badgers put great effort into making exceptional products and I'm so sorry that we fell short on this one,” he said, explaining the recall stemmed from a toxicologist's discovery of unharmful, yet potentially dangerous “organisms” within the products. “They are unlikely to cause problems except for in immune-compromised persons or for persons with severely damaged skin,” said Whyte, adding, “I'm very sorry this happened and we will do everything in our power to see that this never happens again”

Despite issuing the recall, Whyte claims that no related illnesses have been reported in connection with the defective products. “We used these sunscreens all summer long for my three year old granddaughter and I was concerned when I first found out about the problem, but the toxicologist's report combined with the fact that we sold over 20,000 of these and we've received zero reports of adverse reactions, reassured me," he said. In spite of no reports or complaints, the company is still advising customers to immediately discontinue use of the possibly effected products, issuing a special warning to those with open wounds, damaged skin, or a compromised immune system.

Customers can contact Badger’s customer service team for a refund by calling: 1-800-603-6100 or 603-357-2958.
