Bloodsucking bedbugs are creepier now compared to before. A report released by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tells that bedbugs found in a poor place in Vancouver, Canada carries drug-resistant staph bacteria. It is potentially dangerous as drugs could not treat the staph that the bedbugs carry.

Five bedbugs were removed from three different in-house patients of a hospital in a poor section located in downtown Vancouver. It is also considered as one of the poor areas in Vancouver. This is an area wherein there is a high rate of individuals with HIV and injection drug uses are rampant.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the bugs contain a methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Not only that, it also has the vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE). It was found out when bugs were tested as part of the Center for Disease Control's Emerging Infectious Disease report.

However, they are still uncertain whether the people got infected by the bugs or the bugs were infected by the people.

So far, there's no concrete conclusive evidence on the mode of transmission brought about by the bugs. They have recommended a more in-depth study about it. Their study was limited because of the small sample of patients included in the study.

Bedbugs that carry the methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus , the portal of entry done through feeding, implies a reasonable mode of transmission of bacteria at some stage in a blood meal.

In simpler terms, contamination may possibly happen if a person scratch is skin where a bedbug sticks. It will cause an abrasion allowing access of bacteria into your body.

MRSA is an infection brought about by staph that is remarkably found in hospitals. It can be fatal once the bacteria get into a surgical wound or bloodstream. VRE, on the other hand, is a kind of bacteria that can survive on the skin. It is also found in the intestines and will not do any potential harm. However, if a person has a weak immune system, a person is at risk of getting a serious health problem.

The problem with these kinds of bacteria in the bed bugs is that they are resistant to a wide array of antibiotics.

People living in the Downtown Eastside, known as one of the poor sections in Vancouver, are prone to get bedbug infections. As a matter of fact, 13% of individuals have reported infestations of bedbugs. These are no ordinary bedbugs because they contain both MRSA and VRE. Also, these bacteria are commonly present at the nearby hospital which is the Saint Paul's Hospital. That is from a report done by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

There have been rampant reports on the sudden outburst on the population of bedbugs. Most cases are reported from North America and western European countries happening over the past 10 years. Most researchers think that the increased bedbug infestation is due to the increase in world travel. It may also be caused by the increasing resistance to pesticides of the bedbugs.
