J’onn will notice something big about himself when he reconnects with his father M’yrnn J’onzz in Season 3 of “Supergirl.”

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said that J’onn (David Harewood) will realize how much Earth has humanized him following his reunion with his father Myrnn (Carl Lumbly) in the upcoming season of the CW series.

“J’onn has always felt like an alien. He spent 300 years on Earth and he’s always felt different, and other, and felt people were afraid of him, and has always had to hide who he really was,” Kreisberg said. “The irony is he becomes reconnected with his father and his father thinks, ‘Oh my God, you’ve gone so Earth-man.’ So for J’onn, it’s this realization that he’s not quite the alien that he thought he was, and what that means to him, and if we’re reconnecting with his Martian heritage, how important is that to him?”

News of Lumbly’s casting was announced during the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel last July. The 66-year-old actor is no stranger to Martian roles, as the “Alias” alum lent his pipes to the character of Martian Manhunter on the animated series “Static Shock,” “Justice League” and “Justice League Unlimited.”

In addition to J’onn’s reunion with his dad, fans will also see the head of the DEO reunited with M’gann M’orrz (Sharon Leal), aka Miss Martian, next season. “You’re going to see him … with M’gann again, and doing some nice stuff with Sharon Leal as Miss Martian,” Harewood previously told Comicbook.com when asked what viewers can expect from his character in Season 3. “She was fantastic.”
