Are Supergirl and Batman sharing the small screen soon?

Speculations of a crossover event between CW’s “Supergirl” and FOX’s “Gotham” first surfaced after the “Teaming Up” trailer for the upcoming “Supergirl” Season 2 was released last week. Towards the end of the minute-long preview clip, a National City transplant — whose family is caught in a near-fatal explosion— is heard saying, “We’re moving back to Gotham.” While some fans think that the throwaway line was written in just for fun, others think that it could be a foreshadowing for an upcoming “Supergirl” and “Gotham” crossover event.

In an interview with TVLine, however, “Supergirl” executive producer Ali Adler said that the Gotham reference doesn’t really mean much.

“We have this beautiful history with DC, and I like that we get to borrow from this amazing, wonderful canon that we have,” Adler said, before dismissing speculations that a “Supergirl” and “Gotham” crossover event is on the horizon.

“I feel like we have our hands full with the crossover we’re shooting right now,” Adler explained, referring to the four-way crossover between “Supergirl,” “Arrow,” “The Flash” and “Legends of Tomorrow.” “I think people will be satisfied with how much crossover they’re getting this season.”

Although “Gotham” is set in the past and most of CW’s DC Comics TV shows are set in the present, “Gotham” star David Mazouz thinks that a cross-network mash-up event remains completely possible.

“I mean, now The Flash can time travel,” Mazouz told Comicbook.com last week. “The whole problem before was that ‘Gotham’ is set in the past while the other shows ... are set in the present. But, now that there’s time travel introduced to the CW-Verse, I don’t see why not. But it’s not my call.”

“I would love it. I would love to have a crossover episode and have a reference to the fact that Gotham is part of a larger DC Universe ... I hope it does happen,” added the actor who plays 15-year-old Bruce Wayne, a.k.a. Batman on the FOX series.
