Melissa Benoist as Supergirl
The synopsis for Season 2, episode 18 of “Supergirl” teases a potential interaction between Kara (Melissa Benoist) and her former boss Snapper (Ian Gomez). The CW

Kara (Melissa Benoist) is going to show Snapper (Ian Gomez) that she hasn’t given up her life as a reporter after he booted her out of CatCo Worldwide Media.

According to the synopsis for “Supergirl” Season 2, episode 18, titled “Ace Reporter,” Lena’s (Katie McGrath) former boyfriend, Jack Spheer (Rahul Kohli), comes to National City to introduce his newest breakthrough in nano-technology. To show her support, Lena attends Jack’s conference with Kara. But when Kara sees Snapper at the same event, she decides to tap into her reporter skills and question Jack about his invention.

While it seems that Kara only expresses doubt about Jack’s discovery to show Snapper that her passion for journalism didn’t falter following her departure from CatCo, her questions about Jack’s innovation lead to a bigger investigation that puts everyone involved in danger.

The tension between Kara and Jack is pretty apparent in the trailer for the episode. During a dinner with Lena and Kara, Jack bluntly asks Kara, “Are you trying to get me in your crosshairs, Miss Danvers?” While it’s unclear why Jack said that to Kara, it appears that the Girl of Steel obtains a video that seemingly connects Jack to the murder of two people.

In Season 2, episode 15, Snapper fired Kara after she deliberately published an article using CatCo resources on a competing social media platform. This was not only a conflict of interest but also a direct and flagrant breach of her contract with the firm. But will the events in episode 18 lead Snapper to rehire Kara? It is possible.

“Kara might not be out of a job as long as people think. You can’t keep a good writer down,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg teased to TVLine last month.

Benoist added: “[Kara’s job as a journalist] is a struggle, for sure but that’s her calling. So it would not be her story without more journalism. That’s what she wants to do the most with her life, so you’ll see more of that, for sure.”

“Supergirl” Season 2, episode 18 airs on Monday, April 24 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
