Melissa Benoist as Kara, Chris Wood as Mon-El
Melissa Benoist teased what’s next for Kara (Benoist) and Mon-El’s (Chris Wood) relationship in Season 2 of “Supergirl.” The CW

Kara (Melissa Benoist) and Mon-El (Chris Wood) might have settled their differences in this week’s “The Flash” and “Supergirl” musical crossover, but Benoist revealed that there are some obstacles coming up in the remaining episodes of Season 2 that will further test their relationship as a couple.

“Isn’t that how things work? … Just when you get things settled, some wrench has to fall into the gears?” Melissa Benoist told TVLine. “The Daxamites pose some problems. Rhea (Teri Hatcher) is not necessarily a sweet prospect for a mother-in-law, but it’s really fun to see the way these characters interact.”

In Season 2, episode 16, Kara found out that Mon-El lied to her about his real identity. When Mon-El arrived on Earth, he told Kara that he’s a royal guard for the Prince of Daxam, but it turned out he is the prince himself. Kara felt betrayed by what Mon-El did, so she ended their relationship.

But after being whammied by the Music Meister (Darren Criss), Kara realized that she should give Mon-El another chance. “It’s beautiful that she found forgiveness,” Benoist told The Hollywood Reporter. “It was hard for her to get past the fact that he didn’t know how to tell her who he really was. But some Daxamites are coming and they’re going to throw a wrench in things, so they’re going to have another obstacle to face as a couple.”

Towards the end of last episode, Mon-El refused to come back to Daxam with his mom Rhea and his dad Lar Gand (Kevin Sorbo). Although he told his parents to leave Earth and never come back, the trailer for next week’s Season 2, episode 17 shows the king and queen of Daxam setting foot on Earth together for the first time.

“Supergirl” Season 2, episode 17, titled “Distant Sun,” airs on Monday, March 27 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW. Watch the trailer below:
