Maggie is reunited with her dad in next week’s episode of “Supergirl.”

According to the synopsis for Season 3, episode 3 of the CW series, Eliza (Helen Slater) throws Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (Floriana Lima) a wedding shower, which causes the latter to reach out to her estranged father, Oscar Rodas (Carlos Bernard).

Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told TVLine last week that Bernard’s Oscar is “not an easy part” as the character is “not always the most sympathetic figure.” As revealed in Season 2, Maggie grew up in a very conservative family. So when her parents found out that she’s a lesbian, Maggie and her parents got into a big fight, which ended with her dad kicking her out of the house.

Unfortunately, it looks like the relationship between the father and daughter remains strained when they see each other again this season. Last August, Twitter user @ThemysciraBound uploaded a video of Lima and Bernard filming a scene for the episode. While the dialogue between the two is not clear, it’s pretty apparent that their characters are having a fight.

Elsewhere in the episode, Kara (Melissa Benoist) joins J’onn (David Harewood) on a personal mission to Mars.

In the trailer for the episode, Kara tries to stop J’onn from returning to his home planet. “Going back would be a suicide mission,” Kara tells him. Despite Kara’s warning, J’onn has already made up his mind. So instead of letting J’onn go to Mars alone, the Girl of Steel decides to come with him.

At some point in the clip, J’onn declares that he’s the “only Green Martian left.” But M’gann (Sharon Leal) corrects him, revealing that there’s another Green Martian who has survived the massacre of their race. It turns out that Green Martian is none other than J’onn’s father, M’yrnn J’onzz (Carl Lumbly).

Kreisberg previously told Entertainment Weekly that M’yrnn’s introduction to the series will make J’onn realize how much he has been humanized since his arrival on Earth.

“J’onn has always felt like an alien. He spent 300 years on Earth and he’s always felt different, and other, and felt people were afraid of him, and has always had to hide who he really was,” Kreisberg said. “The irony is he becomes reconnected with his father and his father thinks, ‘Oh my God, you’ve gone so Earth-man.’ So … J’onn, [realizes] that he’s not quite the alien that he thought he was.”

“Supergirl” Season 3, episode 3, titled “Far From the Tree,” airs on Monday, Oct. 23 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
