Tyler Hoechlin is hoping to reprise his role as Superman in Season 3 of “Supergirl.”

While there are currently no plans for the Man of Steel to return next season, Hoechlin told IGN that he would love to play the iconic role once again if the opportunity comes up. When asked what he would like to explore more if he does come back, the actor said that he would love to meet up with executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg to talk about it.

“It’s one of those things that I’d love to sit down,” the “Teen Wolf” alum said. “I would like to … sit down with Greg and Andrew, and find again what we were excited to explore the first time around. I think that’s what made it so fun to jump into, was having an idea of what we wanted to do. I would love the opportunity to have that conversation again.”

Although it’s unclear whether or not that conversation will happen in the future, Hoechlin already has ideas of his own about what he would want to see from Superman should he ever return to “Supergirl” next season.

“I’d love to see more about what his relationship with Kara and the rest of her family,” Hoechlin told The Hollywood Reporter. “I think it could be fun to see exactly how much he’s kept up with them over the years. And the Superman/Martian Manhunter (David Harewood) thing is such a fun story arc. And with Jimmy Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) too, there’s still a lot to explore with him and James. Obviously they have the greatest history of anybody on the show, so... now that he’s doing his thing; it would be interesting to see how Clark and Superman feel about what James has been up to [as Guardian].”

Whether or not Hoechlin gets to reprise his role as Superman in Season 3 of “Supergirl,” the actor said that playing the Man of Steel has taught him a lot. “For myself, just as an actor, I learned not to fear any criticisms or critique of what you’re going to do,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “Obviously this is the most iconic role I’ve ever played as an actor, and it would’ve been really easy to feel pressure or feel like I needed to do it a certain way to make people happy. … It was a nice experience as an actor to realize that you can make choices sometimes without having to think too much about what other people are going to think about it, if they’re going to criticize it, just have faith in your vision and go for it.”
