Kara will meet Reign for the first time in next week’s installment of “Supergirl.”

According to the synopsis for Season 3, episode 9 of the CW series, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) investigates a mysterious symbol that pops up all over National City and discovers that the symbol’s origins are connected to an ancient prophecy and to the mark of the World Killer, Reign (Odette Annable).

In Season 3, episode 7, Sam (Annable) finally discovered her true identity. Inside the Fortress of Sanctuary, a holographic projection told her that she’s from Krypton. Familiar with the tale of the planet, Sam was shocked to discover that she indeed has powers, and realized that she’s like Supergirl. But the hologram corrected her and said that she was more than the Girl of Steel. The hologram told Sam that she’s a World Killer, a genetically engineered being designed to “execute justice.” But unlike Supergirl, the mankind would not see Sam as a hero as she would dispense justice without mercy, and cause Earth to burn.

Sam rejected this instantly, insisting that she’s a good person. But before she could react further, her time to fulfill her true purpose as Reign came. The single mother screamed and doubled over in agony. After a few moments, Sam suddenly stopped and stood up. Her eyes turned bright red, suggesting that had fully transformed into Reign.

The trailer for the next episode teases Reign’s arrival in National City. “It’s here, the end of days. And in its wake, many cowards, killers, vile men will burn, and they will call it World Killer,” says the voiceover in the promo clip. “Her rise will come in the fall of the righteous and she will reign.”

Promo photos for the episode reveal that Supergirl and Reign will go head-to-head against each other, and it seems that the Word Killer is a formidable foe for the Girl of Steel.

Elsewhere in the episode, the tension between Lena (Katie McGrath) and Morgan Edge (Adrian Pasdar) continues to build, causing James (Mehcad Brooks) to step in and offer up some protection, and possibly igniting a spark in the process.

“Supergirl” Season 3, episode 9, aptly titled “Reign,” airs on Monday, Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW. Watch the trailer for the episode below:
