Talk about one of your ultimate what-ifs.

What if you had to choose: a week without your phone or without sexual intercourse? Which would you give up?

Well, one-third of all respondents gave the somewhat surprising answer that they would rather have their phones for a week than have sex. The findings come from a survey commissioned by TeleNav, Inc. which overall highlighted Americans' passion for mobile phones. The survey quizzed 514 U.S. mobile phone users (half male/half female) of driving age.

TeleNav quizzed both smartphone and feature phone users. The company, which makes a GPS navigator and other apps for driving, said that overall smartphone users were more dedicated to their phone than feature phone users. Twenty two percent of Smartphone users said they'd they'd rather go a week without seeing their significant rather than having to forfeit their phone.

It's not just love either. Smartphone owners were more than twice as likely to choose their phone over their laptop/computer as well as their TVs. They also judge people more based on the phones they carry.

Smartphone users were also willing to give up showers for the phone as well. In general, iPhone users were more dedicated than most phone owners.

For instance, 22 percent of all respondents said they would rather give up their toothbrush than their phone for a week. This number goes up to 40 percent when you just ask iPhone users.

Even crazier? Forty three percent of iPhone users were willing to go shoeless rather than phoneless for a week. Ouch. That's a lot of blisters and scars. Only 27 percent of Android users and 23 percent of BlackBerry users were willing to do the same.

TeleNav found other interesting information that showed it's not just iPhone and smartphone users that are in love with their phone (although strangely 83 percent of iPhone users think someone with another iPhone would make the best romantic partner). For instance, nearly half of the respondents sleep with their phone next to them.

Some other interesting findings:

  • As mentioned, 83 percent of iPhone users prefer another iPhone user as their romantic partner. 70 percent of Android users would prefer another Android user. Sadly for Research in Motion, only 48 percent of Blackberry users would prefer another Blackberry user.
  • 68 percent of iPhone users and 65 percent of Android users would rather go a week without exercise. Hopefully these people don't overlap with the no shower people.
  • 31 percent of smartphone users check their phones at the movies.
  • 18 percent of smartphone users have ended their relationship using technology
