Sweden's jobless rate stood at 7.8% in the first quarter, up 1.5 percentage points from the previous year, a report by the Statistics Sweden said Thursday. During this period, there were 380, 000 unemployed persons. Among the youth aged 15 to 24 years, the jobless rate stood at 24.4% in the first quarter.

Meanwhile, the number of employed persons totaled 4.47 million in the first quarter, representing a decrease of 54,000 persons from the previous year. The report said this was the first time since 2004, the number of employed decreased from the corresponding quarter of last year.
