RTTNews - Sweden's manufacturing purchasing managers' index decreased in August, but continued to expand for the third consecutive month, a report by the Swedbank and Silf said Tuesday.

The index fell to 52.4 from 54.3 in July, after rising continuously since December 2008, but remained above the threshold level of 50 separating expansion and contraction.

Production and new orders decreased and made the largest negative contribution to the index. The production index dropped to 56.1 from 61, while the new orders index dropped to 57.8 from 60.5.

the employment index contracted a slower pace, with the index rising to 40.6 from 40.3, but remained below the threshold level for the 17th consecutive month. Meanwhile, the index of suppliers raw and intermediate goods prices increased and showed expansion for the first time since September last year.
