The Swiss franc showed weakness against most major opponents during New York deals on Thursday. The franc dropped to new multi-week lows of 1.6960 against the British pound and 1.1607 versus the US dollar at around 12:15 pm ET, which may be compared to yesterday's New York session closing values of 1.6882 and 1.1471, respectively.

Switzerland's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased to 3.3% in March from 3.1% recorded in February, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, or SECO, said today. The jobless rate matched economists' expectations.

The franc also ticked down against the Japanese yen and dropped to 86.60 at about 12:15 pm ET today. At present, the Swiss currency is trading near 1.1573 against the greenback, 86.82 versus the yen and 1.6945 against the pound.
