SXSW 2014 Crash: Two Killed In Car Accident Identified, List Of Injured Released

Police have identified the two people killed by a suspected drunk driver when he crashed his vehicle into a crowd of South by South West festival attendees in downtown Austin, Texas.

Authorities say Steven Craenmehr, 35, of Amsterdam, Holland, and Jamie West, 27, of Austin were killed during the early-hours incident on March 13, KVUE reports. Rashad Charjuan Owens, 21, has been charged with capital murder in the deaths of Craenmehr and West. He has also been charged with aggravated assault with a vehicle after injuring 22 additional people. The complete list of victims' names is available here.

Two people are currently in critical condition, and another three are in serious condition. One man and three women remain unidentified by authorities.

The suspect was being chased by police before the crash took place. The chase began a little after midnight, when an officer saw a man driving in the wrong direction on a one-way street. The suspect was asked to pull over to a sobriety checkpoint at a gas station. The driver acted as if he would comply, but sped off through the crowded gas station parking lot and down the street. After driving for about two blocks, the suspect slammed through a police barricade and plowed right into people. Many of the individuals struck were waiting in line outside of a nightclub.

Owens crashed into Craenmehr, who was riding a bike, and West, who was riding a moped. After barreling into the crowd, police say the driver fled the scene. He was eventually caught, with an officer using a Taser to subdue him.

University Medical Center Brackenridge's ER medical director Dr. Chris Ziebell says eight patients were taken to the facility.

According to Dr. Ziebell, three people are in serious condition and in the ICU. Two more have have head injuries, and he says he has a "great deal of concern and worry" for those two patients. The others in serious condition reportedly have leg injuries and spinal fractures.

Thirteen crash victims were taken to St. David's South Austin Medical Center. Four were taken to St. David's Medical Center. Thirteen have been treated and released while one remains in serious condition.

Owens' Blood Alcohol Content level was tested, but the result has not yet been released.
